Activity: Stranded on a desert island

At our meeting in Denmark, the guests from the different countries were divided into groups and together with their Danish hosts they participated in lessons in different classes with students from age 11 to 15. 

 

Here is one of the activities they took part in: 

 

8th. And 9th. Grade.

Stranded on a Desert Island.

Individual:

You are stranded om a desert island.

You have got the 5 most important things in your life on you. What 5 things do you have?

Draw and colour the things on paper – one thing on each paper.

In groups:

1.

Every member of the group tells the others why they brougt their things.

The group finds 10 things between the groupmembers' things.

Discuss what things you want to keep.

You cannot vote you to agree on the things. Give very good reasons for bringing your things.

 

2.

Find a name for the island

Discuss where to make camp on the island.

Give good reasons for choosing the spot.

How are you going to survive?

What does your camp look like?

How will you get food?

How will you make rules and decisions?

Write down the rules and decisions you make.

What happens if you break the rules?

 

3.

Draw you camp on the map of the island.

Write the name of the island on top of the paper.

Put the things, you chose to bring, on the map.

Remember: It is exstremely rude to speak in a language that the others do not understand.
